![]() In fact, if doing an extended car trip, I always take my Garmin 2689 and it often is my primary navigation device. I personally have found the built in system very difficult to use in finding destinations. It is to laugh.I would suggest that prior to purchase, you attempt to borrow a Honda for a weekend or at a minimum sit in the parking lot, in a car and input some sample destinations. Sometimes you have to bow to the absurdity. So I borrow her Ridge last week to run a package in to the post office before they close, and in checking my phone for the time, I also notice that the dashboard digital display of the no-working-nav vehicle is exactly correct. It came from the Central time zone, was relocated over here to DST, which has now more recently been turned back to reflect EST. and all of that, for me, would have been unneeded except that I wanted to manually adjust the time showing on the dashboard twice a year to be correct. Most of this thread was concerned with the nav unit: the error message DVD or no DVD in the unit?, getting it to eject, right one or wrong one troubleshooting, possible replacement and different sources, comparative costs, etc. Round and round in circles he went, until finally he caught it - and it was right there where it was supposed to be.Īs a preface, review that Suzy's '09 RTL was originally sold new in Oklahoma and lived its whole life there and in Texas until it was purchased by yours truly and trucked to the N.E. Then, there was the dog who spent a lot of time chasing his tail. Still gotta change it twice a year, but WTH? I'll mess with this some more, but in between the puzzle pieces I've actually started thinking about going to Walmart and getting some little battery powered clock hootie and velcro-ing it over the time digits display under the nav screen. Would be useful to be able to get an 'hours' reading on these - since that disc is spinning around all the time the vehicle's nav is in use. Same with one from a parts yard (which might not even work when you get it home). The used job from ebay might be just as old and tired and ready to hang it up. So the price of an Alpine refurb is about the same as the price of a used one, be it ebay or retail, and it could be more. We will contact you if additional fees will apply due to unit received with damages, customer cause or unit is not repairable." If there is no physical damage or liquid damage other extensive issues, the estimate repair price including ground shipping back to you is $358.00 which includes a $50.00 non-refundable diagnostic and handling fee. We are pleased to provide you with the estimate for the repair of your OEM Honda navigation system. (It does have 'Alpine' on that tag on the bottom.) What I got back was the following templated response: Obviously, either the first/original owner, or the second owner, (bought it in '21, likely traded it back to the dealership in '22, after which I - er: she - uh - WE bought it), swapped it out.įeeling my way along here, I sent all the ID of my (I mean: her) unit to Alpine: the P/N, the reference no. ![]() There are a lot of these units that will work on Suzy's '09 - and some that won't. I’m going to look around and consider my options for replacement and/or repair.Ĭlick to expand. So, McC, the plot thickens. Also I don’t know whether it’s the original unit or not. And I’m still thinking the ROM unit is bad. Do I assume correctly that this is a 2014 or ‘15 update disc? (The 2013 update I got from McChizzle is Ver.4.B copyright.) So it appears the previous owner at least attempted an update, and there’s no way of telling if it took or not. Remembering that this is in an ’09 RTL, the disc that came out was marked Ver.4.D0 with a copyright date of 2014. Have to admit the part that’s really starting to bug me is that it keeps telling me to consult my dealer. And, sure enough, the ‘DVD disc reading error’ screen came back up. The bottom/business side had no scuffs or other aberrations, so I gently polished it with a lint-free cloth and re-installed. Inexplicably, after freeing it from its mount, I got the disc – the one the dealership said wasn’t there - to eject. Thinking that the DVD ROM module is probably the culprit, I decided to remove it, at least far enough to get the part no.
